The parish of Mullumbimby was formed in January 1905.   The first vicar was inducted in February 1910, leading his flock from the simple Anglican Church named after St. John, the Evangelist.  This timber building is now situated at the rear of the Stuart Street complex and used as offices and a meeting room.

St. Clement's, Billinudgel was dedicated in October 1907.  At the time of their inception both St. Clement's and St. John's came under the jurisdiction of the Parish of Byron Bay.  Services were conducted in St. Clement's until 1988.

Land for St. Thomas', Brunswick Heads was purchased in September 1912.  A foundation stone for the building was laid on 1st January, 1922 and the church dedicated on 18th March 1923.

In November 1921 the foundation stone was laid for the new Church of St. John in Mullumbimby  -  on the Stuart Street site.  All the plans refer to the new St. John's Church of England, and there is uncertainty as to why the name was later changed.  It may have been to avoid confusion in the town and a decision was made to name the building after a different saint.  The church was dedicated on 25th March 1925 as St. Martin's War Memorial Church.  The festival of St. Martin of Tours is celebrated on armistice day, November 11th.

In September 1995 the Anglican Family Centre (later known as St. Anselm's) was opened and dedicated at Ocean Shores.
